Nintendo 3DS console has been on the rumour mill for a while, but full specs, along with some games (and some surprises!) got announced yesterday. Here’s what the console has to offer:
- Dual-screen (it’s what the DS stands for) with touch screen at the bottom and 3.5 inch widescreen 3D display up top.
- Triple input: D-pad, touch screen and slidepad for analogue input.
- Motion sensor
- Gyro sensor
- Dual-camera aperture to take 3D pictures (effectively, the 3DS will be a 3D camera.)
- Support for 3D movies.
- NO GLASSES!
- A slider allowing the 3D effect to be increased or turned off
- Support for existing DS and DSi software.
A number of developers are working with Nintendo on the 3DS platform, and although few games were explicitly mentioned, here’s what to expect:
- DJ Hero 3D from Activision
- Resident Evil: Revelation (a whole new game) and an entry to the Street Fighter IV franchise from Capcom.
- FIFA Soccer, Madden NFL from EA Sports.
- The Sims 3 from EA
- Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D “The Naked Sample” from Konami.
- A Professor Layton game from Level-5.
- A Boy And His Blob from Majesco.
- Sonic and Super Monkey Ball games from SEGA.
- Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts games from SQUARE ENIX.
- Saint’s Row and a Marvel Super Hero Squad game from THQ.
- Assassin’s Creed, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell entries from Ubisoft.
- Batman and Lego games from Warner Bros.
Nintendo themselves will be offering some of the following:
- Animal Crossing
- Kid Icarus: Uprising
- Mario Kart
- nintendogs + cats
- Paper Mario
- PilotWings Resort
- Star Fox 64 3D
- Steel Driver
Last, but totally not least, is possibly the most awesome and greatest game EVER (so good, it deserves caps lock) is being remastered and re-released for the Nintendo 3DS, and just in case you can’t tell from the image below…it’s The Legend Of Zelda: The Ocarina Of Time.
