It looks like Sebastian Stan has joined the cast of Captain America: The First Avenger in quite an important role. A few days ago, we brought you the news that Chris Evans was cast as the shield-wielding superhero. Now, it looks like Cap has found his sidekick with Sebastian Stan cast as James Buchanan Barnes, or Bucky has he’s been known in the comics. Stan may not be as recognisable as his co-star, but with roles in Gossip Girl, The Covenant and Kings, he has quite a meaty resumé of acting positions.
Despite the news breaking on April 1st, it looks like this is the real deal, with Variety and other reputable news sources reporting it. What’s interesting about this is that Stan was (reportedly) shortlisted for the role of Cap himself: it looks like someone either got their rumours wrong, or else Stan made a very good impression on the producers.
What’s interesting, of course, is that in current Marvel continuity, Bucky has died, been brought back as a brainwashed Communist assassin, been rescued and when Steve Rogers “disappeared,” took up the mantle of Captain America, led the New Avengers and shacked up with Natasha Romanov/the Black Widow (who’ll be appearing in Iron Man 2 played by Scarlett Johansson.) Depending on how closely the upcoming Avengers movies stick to current continuity, we could be seeing a lot more of Stan than just as a sidekick.
Not sure if iv ever seen him in anything before so cant judge. But he was the right look about him, if not a little too old looking.
Yeah, not sure on the whole looking-like-a-teenager thing, but heck, this is Hollywood.
I would actually love a Winter Soldier/Bucky-becoming-Cap film. Probably more than the Cap film itself.
Yeah Id absolutely love a winter soldier story line. I read somewhere that the invaders could be making an appearance in it altho that could be bull. Would be nice is they used a lot of elements from brubakers cap
I’d like to think they would. Though I’m still waiting (patiently) for Ms Marvel to make an appearance in one of the movies. Then, and only then will I be happy.
