It’s the video game that’s coming out at the same time as a movie, but it isn’t a movie tie-in and is revisiting the part of the franchise that the movie is based on, even though the video game series has already moved on to something completely different.
If you haven’t figured it out yet, the game is Prince Of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. The game is due out this summer, just in time for the Prince Of Persia movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Ben Kingsley, and supposedly covers some “forgotten” chapters in the Sands Of Time trilogy. It also gives the prince all new powers and abilities, as you can see from the trailer below.
As you might have guessed, I’m not sold on the game: I quite enjoyed the Sands Of Time games upon their original release (even the Wii remake of Prince Of Persia: The Two Thrones) but also loved the new direction that the title took with the non-subtitled release in 2008, especially the additions of Elika and the gorgeous art style. Returning to the Sands Of Time timeline is all well and good, but I really hope that it’s just a means to an end, and we’ll get to see a release to Prince Of Persia some time soon. That said, it might just be me. Let us know what your own thoughts are on the series below.
Prince Of Persia is due for release May 2010 on Sony PlayStation 3, XBox 360, PC, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DSi and Sony PSP.
