Massive? Action? Gaming? Please

Last year, we had the chance to experience the Beta of MAG, and catch up with creative director Ed Byrne to bring you a preview and what we hoped the game would bring. With the full game out now, players around the world have the chance to jump into a massive 256-player experience and take part in the Shadow War, a war of resources and reputation that promises to have gamers awake until the early hours of the morning.

Since we already outlined most of the mechanics behind the gameplay in MAG, we’re not going to repeat ourselves: the full release of the game has brought greater customisation, smoother graphics and better rendering. If you’re a fan of any FPS-gameplay, then MAG is really one of those must-have experiences: by combining FPS gameplay with (some) of the sensibilities of an MMORPG, the results are an unusually immersive game that still has that personal touch of being able to run in amongst your enemies and shoot guns at them.

But there’s a downside too, usually coming in the shape of other players: coordinating the efforts of 256 gamers (or 128 per team) there’s bound to be someone that doesn’t want to play ball and if you’re someone (like me) who just doesn’t like when you’re gaming is influenced by someone else, you might just wish that they weren’t on your team.

For the full story, you can check some of our original preview.
